SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday, June 26th, noon - midnight (Shipyards Park)
Sunstroke is celebrating its fourth year as an annual Humane Society Fundraiser on Friday, June 26, 2009 at Shipyards Park. Sunstroke is the single largest one-day fundraiser for the animals at the Mae Bachur Animal Shelter. From noon until midnight, Sunstroke will host 15 bands from the Yukon and across Canada. Our programming boasts a large variety of musical genres, so as to appeal to every demographic. Kids 12 and under are free! Other fun festivities include free animal balloons, face painting, beer gardens, and a variety of local food and craft vendors. Sunstroke is the kickoff event to the Solstice Festival, which is brought to you by Triple J's Music, l'association Franco-Yukonnaise and the Whitehorse Heritage Festival Society.

The Whitehorse Heritage Festival Society presents two art shows: a collection of northern art on loan from local elders of Whitehorse will be on display at the Macbride Museum, and Bern Will Brown of Colville Lake, NT will be profiled at the Grotto Gallery of the Yukon Arts Centre. Be sure to enter the draw to win the biography of this great painter and photographer called "Arctic Journal".

Saturday, June 27th, 11am - midnight (Shipyards Park / Yukon Arts Centre/Macbride Museum)

L'AFY (L'Association Franco-Yukonnaise, the local French Association) celebrates multi-cultural day at Shipyards Park. Different cultural and ethnic groups will sell food and Yukon-made crafts. Activities during the day for youth and adults include: petanque, painting on rocks, babyfoot, coloring, croquet, vox pop, music jams, musical workshop for kids and more! In the evening they will presentsix bands/artists including headliners Damien Robitaille from Ontario, Johnny Cajun from Manitoba and Furia Nova from Whitehorse.

The Whitehorse Heritage Festival Society presents their annual Fashion Show at the Yukon Arts Centre at 4 pm. Tickets are $8, available at Arts Underground.

Bern Will Brown of Colville Lake, NT will be profiled at the Grotto Gallery of the Yukon Arts Centre. Be sure to enter the draw to win the biography of this great painter and photographer called "Arctic Journal".

The Macbride Museum will have a wonderful collection of northern art on display that is on loan from local elders of Whitehorse.

Sunday, June 28th, 11am - 9pm (Shipyards Park)
The Whitehorse Heritage Festival Society presents a free day program for families consisting of muti-cultural dances and musical performances from 11 am to 5:30 pm. Food and crafters will be on site, as well as a "Kids Creative" tent for the children to enjoy.

At 7 pm there will be a family concert with headliner "JouTou" from Vancouver, BC (view their webiste: www.silkroadmusic.ca). Admission is $10, children under 12 free. Tickets available at the French Association building on Strickland Street, and Triple J's Music on 4th Avenue.

Heritage Festival Organizers
The current Whitehorse Heritage Festival Collective consists of people from the Filipino, Latino, French, East Indian and Vietnamese cultures. We have been meeting and coordinating the festival since Sept. 25th, 2007 and have developed a vision and mission statement:

Objective
The purpose of the festival is to bring together members of different ethnic and cultural groups to recognize and show appreciation for their unique contribution to the community and to provide opportunities to showcase aspects of their culture and history in the Yukon.

Outcomes
We have designed this event so that it will:

- Educate the community about our ethnic and cultural diversity;

- Foster closer relationships within ethnic and cultural groups to create more cultural organizations, thus contributing to the social and economic strength of the community;

- Contribute to the overall well being of our community by creating new friendships and deepening the understanding of what all cultures have to offer;

- Support heritage related activities that enhance tourism in Whitehorse.

A major component of this festival is to create an environment where participants freely connect with each other therefore creating relationships between the different cultures, fostering appreciation of each other and providing an opportunity to develop new friendships. Because this is an event designed for the whole family, there will be no alcohol served.
